Ebook About
An unconventional vicar must exorcise the dark past of a remote village haunted by death and disappearances in this explosive and unsettling thriller from the acclaimed author of The Chalk Man.A dark history lingers in Chapel Croft. Five hundred years ago, Protestant martyrs were betrayed—then burned. Thirty years ago, two teenage girls disappeared without a trace. And a few weeks ago, the vicar of the local parish hanged himself in the nave of the church.Reverend Jack Brooks, a single parent with a fourteen-year-old daughter and a heavy conscience, arrives in the village hoping for a fresh start. Instead, Jack finds a town rife with conspiracies and secrets, and is greeted with a strange welcome package: an exorcism kit and a note that warns, “But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed and hidden that will not be known.”The more Jack and daughter, Flo, explore the town and get to know its strange denizens, the deeper they are drawn into the age-old rifts, mysteries, and suspicions. And when Flo begins to see specters of girls ablaze, it becomes apparent there are ghosts here that refuse to be laid to rest.Uncovering the truth can be deadly in a village with a bloody past, where everyone has something to hide and no one trusts an outsider.

Book The Burning Girls: A Novel Review :

This is a very good story, and I am 3/4 of the way through it. I'm sure that the last quarter will be fine. However I need to write this now because I'm absolutely offended by certain things that this author is writing that it's so wrong. I mean to say it's just so wrong that it's fantasy and the authors personal opinions are making the vicur sound like she should get a different job, because her actions are the actions of someone who should be sitting in the pew not leading the service. At the beginning of the book the author needs to litter it with the word shit. Everything that the vicar and her daughter were saying is shit. I'm not sure I know vicars who walk around expressing themselves that way, especially with a teenage child in the house emulating her mother, which is what teenage children do. She seems to be not a good role model. However I got past this until I got to page 249. At that page one of the characters said that he had a homosexual relationship with the last vicar and he said according to the Old testament it's a sin. she did not even let him get that out of his mouth without going into a rant about the Old testament being misogynist and outdated, and she is an angry woman. how do you go to a service with a preacher who is violently opposed to the Bible. The Bible says not to judge, and she's judging the Bible. Plus tell her to read Leviticus which specifically states that two men shouldn't lie together. I'm sorry that she has to read that, but if she doesn't like it then she should get another job. This person who is the protagonist, is a very distasteful character. Now I'm sure that the author throwing her personal opinions with the characters description of the old testament, but this book is not about feminism, the protagonist is a pastor. If the pastor is going to leave the flock, she needs to be neutral and believe the book of God. I am not a religious fanatic, not am I anti-feminist, but this author should stop sticking in her obvious beliefs and disguising them in a fictional character, so you can subtly pick it up. If the author wants to talk about her subject matter, make a speech and put the focus on herself not on a fictional character. This type of stuff goes on now all the time. The author needs to get real with everyone instead of disguising a propaganda book which in reality is all that this is disguised in a good story. The cursing is inappropriate not because I care about cursing, but it's who's doing the cursing. The author thinks that she needs to express herself this way to show everyone that she gets the message of society right now and she's someone that we should listen to. I know I'm judging the author, which is anti-christian, so I'll ask for forgiveness and finish the book now
FEB 2021 : 3 STAR STORY / 4 STAR CREEPINESSWelcome to Chapel Craft. Five hundred years ago, eight protestant martyrs were burned at the stake here. Thirty years ago two teenage girls disappeared without a trace. Two months ago, two teenage girls disappeared without a trace. Two months ago the vicar of the local parish killed himself. Reverend Jack Brooks, a single parent with a fourteen year old daughter and a heavy conscience, arrives in the village. The two first books by this author for me were The Chalk Man ('18 - Read '20 - 4 Stars) and The Other People ('20 - 5 Stars). The creepiness starts-off right at the beginning. Very descriptive in order to pull you into the scenes themselves; the cemetery, the church and even the creepy house. The creepiness factor is high but at 57% not much of a story or mystery. The story did come together in the last 20% but it took a long time to get there. Hard book to rate since the creepiness factor was a 4 but the story itself was a 3.
